National Sign Language Day Start › News < back 15 Nov 2022 November 15th marks National Sign Language Day, having been created in 1997 and recognized as the language of the Portuguese Deaf Community. Having this day, the objective of promoting Portuguese Sign Language is also to guarantee respect for the rights of deaf people. Portuguese Sign Language has become the language recognized as an instrument of access to education for deaf children and young people in reference schools for bilingual education, and is also used by the entire surrounding community, such as family members, educators, teachers, among others.
