National Coronary Disease Day Start › News < back 14 Feb 2023 February 14th is National Coronary Disease Day, with the aim of increasing prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. This date was institutionalized by the Portuguese Cardiology Foundation and is celebrated throughout the European Community. Coronary heart disease is the most dominant of cardiovascular pathologies, being a progressive disease and the main cause of premature death, causing physical limitations and loss of quality of life for the affected person. In Portugal, coronary disease affects, on average, 10 thousand people per year, with cardiovascular diseases being the main cause of death in the country (around 42% of deaths).
