International Day of Older Persons

1
Oct
2022
October 1st was proclaimed the International Day of Older Persons by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14th, 1990, since then it has been celebrated every year on this date, as a way of honoring the elderly and raising awareness among the population about the opportunities and challenges posed by the aging population.

Over the next three decades, the number of elderly people around the world is expected to multiply, reaching more than 1.5 billion people in 2050. Forecasts indicate that in developing countries the growth of the elderly population will be faster , where the number of people aged 65 and over could increase from 37 million in 2019 to 120 million in 2050.

The elderly population is a key demographic group, mainly for the health sector, also involving other sectors, but unfortunately recommendations are ignored, and at the health level, there are significant flaws making the situation of the elderly less adequate and favorable , making it necessary to invest in quality community services!

It's important to listen to them and share knowledge! More initiatives are needed to ensure that approaches reach older people in a way that they appreciate and value.
