Fernando Araújo is the new Executive Director of the SNS Start › News < back 23 Sep 2022 This Friday, Fernando Araújo, current doctor and president of the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de São João, in Porto, accepted today at a press conference, the invitation made by the Minister of Health, Manuel Pizarro, to be the first Executive Director of the Service National Health. In his opening statement, Minister Manuel Pizarro said that Fernando Araújo “is a personality well known to all Portuguese people, particularly in the health sector” and “a professional of known merits, a specialist immunotherapy doctor with concrete work in his hospital in all domains”, having been Service Director at Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de São João, EPE. He also has an academic work that everyone knows, with enormous experience in the management of health units. He even became a member and president of ARS Norte, where he played a very important role in organizing these health services. Manuel Pizarro highlighted that no one has any doubts that he is a personality with all the conditions to give the SNS a contribution in terms of management that we all recognize is very necessary. Now, Fernando Araújo will only take office on January 1, 2023, and proposed that the new headquarters of the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service be located in Porto, something that was accepted by the Government. Manuel Pizarro also took advantage of this conference to talk about the future of health in Portugal, guaranteeing resources for a new National Health Service.
